First released in 2020, the spicy chicken nuggets at McDonald’s have been re-launched at some locations for a limited time.

According to the McDonald’s website, the chicken nuggets are seasoned with aged cayenne pepper and chili. They are available in quantities of 6, 10, 20, and 40. Similar to the original chicken nuggets, they are offered with a sauce of the customer’s choice.

As to not alter the flavor, a plain spicy nugget was tried before trying one with sauce. On their own, the nuggets were not dry. They had a slightly different texture than that of the original McNuggets. The nuggets were crunchier in some areas than others. These factors may have been due to the time it took for them to be transported. When the chicken nuggets arrived, they were still warm. However, they were not fresh out of a fryer. The chicken nuggets also had an orange color different from that of the regular chicken nuggets. For some individuals, they may be a bit spicy. However, the majority of the members who tested them only tasted a hint of spice.

The sauce that the nuggets were paired with was the spicy buffalo. The sauce was spicier than the nuggets and added some balance with its acidity. The sauce paired well with the chicken nuggets and added a more intense flavor.

Although spicy chicken nuggets may be temporary, they taste very similar to the spicy McChicken. McDonald’s has incorporated many items into the menu that are spicier versions of the originals, many of which are permanent additions to the menu. These options are more flavorful and generally not too spicy, except for the Spicy McCrispy, one of the spiciest options on the McDonald’s menu. To rate the spiciness of the chicken nuggets on a scale of 0 to 5 (5 being the spiciest), the spicy chicken nuggets are a 1. However, spice levels are subjective to a person’s spice tolerance. Overall, they are rated a 2 out of 5. The spicy nuggets are more flavorful than regular chicken nuggets, but not the best in comparison to other fast-food chains.

2/5 stars.
