The play Radium Girls illuminated the Performing Arts Center on November 8 and 9.
The primary plot surrounds the workers of timepiece factories. While the play is about the science behind radioactivity, it has been mainly written about the biological effects of radium on the body. The actors have recreated the story and events real people have experienced.
Eden Theater Arts has created an incredible piece, as each actor showcases their passion within their onstage roles. All members of the Eden Theater Arts ensemble enjoy sharing their talent to audiences, demonstrating that perseverance leads to success.
Based on the time period after World War I, the actors’ costumes reflected the time period and hairstyles, styled in a fashion typical of the 1920’s. Onstage, the ensemble was dedicated to developing a memorable presentation.
This makes Eden Theater Arts very unique, bestowing a magical and emotional feeling amongst the audience with every scene. This aids the audience with connecting with older times, further immersing them into the play.
“It’s learning how to be part of a community,” said Mt. Eden theater teacher Tracy Phillips. “In this case, just like in a sports team, they’re learning how to work together and what it means to collaborate, cooperate, and to sometimes make compromises.”
The play was well elaborated and designed for a respectful audience, allowing viewers to analyze the way the story highlights exploitation of labor, and the consumption of harmful substances.
