On November 8 and 9 Mt. Eden’s Theater Ensemble will be performing a timeless classic from the 1920’s: Radium Girls, by D.W. Gregory. Located in the Performing Arts Center’s black box theater, this piece will showcase the history and horror of the radium legacy of the 1920’s. Historically, this is the very first autumn semester play the program has done in 12 years. The cast and crew have put in 15 hours weekly to contribute to this production.
“It’s really rewarding for me when I see everything come together,” said Mt. Eden senior Amelia Costales-Downey.
This autumn Costales-Downey is playing the lead role of Grace Fryer. She has been in theater at Mt. Eden for three years.
“This is something I want to continue to do,” continued Costales-Downey.
Co-star Jade Merari Mendoza Rodriguez, is taking on the role of Catherine Donohue. This is Jade’s fourth year with Mt. Eden’s theater program.
“I am very proud to say that I had made it this far,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez mentioned how she has struggled with stage fright in the past and how she has overcome that fear.
“I have a great support system [including] myself,” said Rodriguez.
The Theater Ensemble holds a high regard for connection and authenticity within each of their actors. Their tireless work on the Radium Girls production is one for the ages.
