What does it mean to support AAPI youth?
Is it to advocate for equity and proof of Asian American culture
when many of them never wanted to be “Asian,” under the same roof?
Is it to uplift Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Japanese, or Hawaiian traditions
while dozens of Asian cultures are never heard,
but still in the same position/condition
of “Asian American/AAPI.”
What does it mean to support Asian American youth?
Is it to endorse Asian American mental health, to soothe,
when many don’t strive
to feel better, just to survive?
Is it to promote Asian American excellence and achievement
while many criticize white-washing, model minority, and their concealment?
What does it mean to support Asian American youth?
Is it to make sure they stand at the booth
while many of them have no experience with the truth
only fleeting expectations and promises that go: poof?
Is it to give attention to hate crimes against the Asian elderly, giving them a voice
when many do not want to be heard, just left with their own choice
of whether to live or die
without a stranger to deny
their second chance at life?
What does it mean to support Asian American youth?
Maybe its to advocate for our own truths
and hope we can all live with the same comparison
of “Asian American.”
