There are over 30 clubs at Mt. Eden. On Thursday, September 14th, Club Day displayed the clubs available and granted students the opportunity to engage in all sorts of interests, hobbies, careers, and more. Taking place in the quad, Club Day presented various clubs worth checking out (see our advertisement section for more information). Here are some of Mt. Eden’s clubs you can choose from:
Journalism is a welcoming club that focuses on keeping the community well-informed about what is going on at school and in the broader community. The club takes pride in bringing students and teachers news stories that matter. Club members put their heart into gathering necessary research to craft articles that are not just informative but also captivating for readers. Beyond simply providing news, Journalism Club aims to offer diverse perspectives, valuable insights, and professional, respectful advertising in our publications. If you have a passion for people and information, Journalism Club is the perfect place for you! Whether your interests lie in entertainment, news reporting, or the thrill of exploring new topics, you’ll find an embracing community in Journalism Club. For those aspiring to pursue a career in writing after high school, Journalism Club provides valuable lessons in journalistic techniques and methods, offering you a firsthand taste of what it’s like to work for a newspaper.
Ngoc Nguyen, Mt. Eden. junior, promotes Interact: “Interact is a community service club aiming to help communities through various events, service projects, and fundraisers. Our bigger organization, District 1570, connects us to schools across the Bay Area and together, establishes positive influence on campus life, serving their communities and improve the lives of people throughout the world. Students can establish new friendships, gain leadership experience, and earn community service hours. It can be a great way to take action to make a difference at Mt. Eden and the community. In previous years, Interact has hosted movie nights, game nights, and various fundraisers, as well as supported community service projects. This year, be on the lookout for an upcoming Bao Bun fundraiser, our first meeting on 9/29, and our biggest district event of the year, the Fall Leadership Conference! By focusing on enhancing our community within the campus, MEHS can achieve its fullest potential!”
Math Honor Society is a national club that involves all high schools and 2-year colleges. Through various math activities, including math Jeopardy and Kahoots, Math Honor Society focuses on everything involving mathematics. This club may also be considered a service club since tutoring is offered to students in math levels Algebra 2 and higher. If you are a lover of mathematics, consider joining Math Honor Society to be surrounded by other students who share the same love you feel for math. For some kids, math is their jam, and they join to celebrate the subject; additionally, other kids wish to pursue a math-related career in the future, and become a member of the club for college-level math preparation.
Chess Club is about chess and is a social club that accepts people regardless if they actually play the game. People come and go to socialize, which only promotes the friendly environment that Mr. Binger, the club advisor, creates. As with chess itself, the club’s focus is on the improvement of each individual, rather than who can beat who. Students at Chess Club have been planning to hold tournaments twice this year. They are hoping to have other schools participate in these tournaments, as they’d like to connect with other schools. They were able to secure tournaments with other schools in previous years, such as Tennyson High and other active Chess Club groups. Chess Club is a perfect way to join a friendly environment, where everyone is involved; Mr. Binger ensures people have fun and learn to laugh out loud.
