Mt. Eden’s LatinX Club presented Noche de Baile on May 2, a night filled with live music, delicious food, and eager dancers.
The event was hosted inside Mt. Eden’s cafeteria from 5–10 p.m. Different performers played on stage, while the clubs were set up along the sides of the cafeteria selling snacks, and vendors sold freshly made quesabirrias right outside the entrance doors.
Supporting the LatinX Club were the Black African Student Union (BASU), Vietnamese Student Association (VSA), and Puente Club. These clubs attended the event alongside LatinX Club and helped bring publicity to the event, offering a variety of different foods and drinks; BASU offered smores, VSA had Vietnamese iced coffee, and Puente and LatinX sold Mexican candy and soda.

Additionally, three music groups were scheduled to perform live: Clave 77, Banda Independencia, and Aztec dancers. Each group brought their own unique style of entertainment. Clave 77 performed corridos, Banda Independencia performed banda music, and the Aztec dancers performed cultural dances.
“It’s my hope that Noche de Baile brings people out, that it brings people together,” said Mt. Eden principal Monique Walton. “It allows folks to kind of learn about different cultures, really see how our cultures are aligned in several ways.”
Junior Puente student Melina Moreno highlighted the significance of events like these for the Hispanic and Latin community at Mt. Eden.

“We have a large Hispanic population here, so I think it’s nice that we’re hosting events that are more catered for them,” said Moreno.
Even though it was an event centered on Hispanic culture, many different cultures attended and showed their support, making for a night that helped bring everyone just a little closer.
