Podcasts can focus on a variety of subjects such as politics, crime stories, the latest celebrity gossip, and more. However, in the shadows of Mt. Eden lurks a piqued podcaster with an abundance of conversation topics.
Mt. Eden senior Jaden Finau started his own podcast in November, encouraged to start the show after peers let him know that his rants were enjoyable.
“I just thought it’d be a silly, whimsical thing I can start,” said Finau.
His podcast “Zero Gravity,” consists of Finau talking about anything and everything with student friends. Depending on the person, Finau and his guest speaker either speak on similar interests or the former can get to know the latter even better through the talks.
For example, as most of his guests are band students, Finau and the other speakers often talk about the program’s state. Other topics of conversation include music, movies, or even random fixations. Any subject is welcome in Zero Gravity.
“It’s like a ranting session between us,” said Finau about conversations alternating between the two speakers’ interests. “We sort of bond over that.”
Despite this hobby, Finau is still a busy senior, leading to his podcast being on hiatus. He said he has an episode lined up “sitting in [his] editing dungeon.” Still, he has people in mind for potential future episodes after he edits and uploads the awaiting episode.
The future of the podcast is still uncertain due to Finau’s other commitments, but he hopes to release a few more episodes, even possibly continuing to record in college.
Finau said he doesn’t care about whether or not his show will not succeed, instead valuing the time he spends getting to know his peers before graduation and separating paths. The most important part to Finau is enjoying himself by talking about passions, whether they’re his guest’s or his own.
